Lobby Days

TNAFP encourages physician members who are interested in getting directly involved in state advocacy efforts to volunteer for Lobby Days.

The program is an easy, organized way for members to work through TNAFP to meet with legislators, observe committees and floor sessions (where possible), and engage in the advocacy process. Each Wednesday during the session is open to members, including students and residents, to sign up to come to the General Assembly and advocate on key healthcare issues. The format allows multiple members to participate at the same time each week and supports TNAFP’s ongoing efforts to raise its profile and influence on Capitol Hill by fostering more frequent visibility for family doctors in Nashville.

How it works

• Sign up for a date online. Click on the “sign up” button to view the schedule and choose a date that works best for you. There is no limit to the number of members who can attend on any open date, but you will select the dates when you are available with the understanding that TNAFP will coordinate just one of those dates for you.                                                                                                                                                                 
• Staff will contact you. Once TNAFP coordinates scheduling (beginning in early January), staff will contact volunteers to confirm their participation. Staff will then follow up closer to time to share pertinent details such as key issues, scheduled meetings for the day, and parking.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               
• Show up! Staff will make it easy, scheduling appointments with legislators, briefing members on issues and talking points, and attending meetings with volunteers whenever possible, to make sure that every participant’s day is enjoyable and productive.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        TNAFP offers Lobby Days volunteers a modest stipend to help offset travel expenses: $100 for Middle Tennessee members and $200 for members travelling from East or West Tennessee.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                It is important to note that advocacy can take many forms. TNAFP encourages all members to engage in the legislative process in whatever ways are most convenient for and appealing to them.
